Apertura 2017 Week 3 Preview: Friday’s Games

Monarcas Morelia vs Santos Laguna – 8:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Monarcas Morelia (13th) drew 1-1 with Puebla last weekend to remain both winless and unbeaten this season. After two straight draws, the Monarquía will look for their first victory of the season when they return home to the Estadio Morelos for this one. Morelia will also look to find their scoring touch after managing just one goal in two games to start the season.

As for Santos Laguna (11th), the Laguneros drew 1-1 with Tigres UANL to likewise remain both winless and unbeaten after a pair of draws to start the Apertura. They’ve been more prolific in front of goal, but they’ve also conceded more frequently. Nevertheless, Santos will look to shut out Morelia’s struggling attack in this one. They will be without coach José Manuel de la Torre, however, as he is suspended.

Tijuana vs Monterrey – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Tijuana (16th) fell 1-0 to Necaxa last weekend to remain winless in league play. The Xolos did manage a win in the Copa MX in midweek, though, where they beat Puebla 1-0. They’ll look to gain some momentum from that victory in this one, although they’ll be without the suspended Alejandro Donatti. Tijuana also has yet to score a goal in league play and they’re facing a team that has yet to concede one.

As for Monterrey (7th), the Rayados beat Veracruz 1-0 last weekend to remain unbeaten this season, despite going down to 10 men in that game. José María Basanta will be suspended for this one as a result of that red card. Monterrey has yet to score on the road, but they’ll look to change that against a potentially vulnerable Xolos side.
