León vs Cruz Azul – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Cruz Azul twice took the lead and twice failed to hold it as León came back for a 2-2 draw. The result leaves León winless this season but gives them their first point while La Máquina remain unbeaten.

The visitors took the lead early on. In the 7th minute, Francisco Silva sent in a corner kick and Enzo Roco headed it past Carlos Felipe Rodríguez – who took the starting spot from William Yarbrough – to make it 0-1 for Cruz Azul.

La Máquina created a few more chances, primarily from other dead ball situations, but couldn’t find a second goal. León struggled to get anything going in attack until the waning moments of the half. In the 41st minute, Mauro Boselli hit the crossbar; then, in the 43rd minute, Elías Hernández hit the post. That rebound was collected and converted by Hernán Darío Burbano to make it 1-1 just before halftime.

In the second half, the rhythm of the game slowed, with few chances of note. Rafael Baca had a shot blocked by Andrés Mosquera; at the other end, Jorge Pereyra couldn’t put his shots on target.

Then, in the 75th minute, Cruz Azul reclaimed the lead. Víctor Zúñiga, who had just entered the game, sent in a cross for Felipe Mora, who finished it off to make it 1-2.

As the clock wound down, it looked like the lead would hold, but at the last minute León found a response. In the 90th minute, Burbano sent in a corner kick and Osvaldo Rodríguez was there to head it home, making it 2-2 at the death.

With the 2-2 draw, León reaches one point while Cruz Azul reaches five.
