Veracruz 1-2 León (Group 6)
León remained perfect in the Copa MX with a 1-2 away win against Veracruz. The result leaves the Tiburones Rojos still looking for their first points in the competition. A light rain and a wet field kept the game moving at a rapid pace, but it wasn’t until the half-hour mark that León took the lead. In the 31st minute, Andrés Andrade sent a cross in for Álvaro Ramos, whose header gave the visitors the 0-1 lead.
Veracruz responded on the stroke of halftime through Leandro Díaz, whose shot from the top of the box beat Édgar Hernández to make it 1-1. But La Fiera reclaimed the lead in the second half, with Andrade getting on the scoreboard himself in the 62nd minute, assissted by Maximiliano Cerato, to make it 1-2. Veracruz pushed for a second equalizer, and they came as close as hitting the post, but ultimately León held on to the lead.
With the 1-2 win, León reaches six points while Veracruz still has zero.
Pachuca 0-0 Querétaro (Group 8)
Both Pachuca and Querétaro remained unbeaten in the Copa MX after playing out a 0-0 draw. The heavy rain in the Estadio Hidalgo had an affect on the game, and the hosts were also hampered by the forced early substitution of Omar González. Pachuca nevertheless looked the better side throughout the game, but they couldn’t find the final touch.
Gil Alalá put in a man-of-the-match performance in goal for Querétaro as the Gallos Blancos were able to keep the Tuzos off the board. The visitors created some chances of their own, but Alfonso Blanco was not overly troubled in Pachuca’s goal.
With the 0-0 draw, Pachuca and Querétaro both reach four points.
Pumas UNAM 1-1 Monterrey (Group 2)
Monterrey took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Pumas UNAM scored a stoppage-time goal to make it 1-1. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten in this tournament, while the universitarios are both unbeaten and winless. The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute through Jorge Benítez; the Paraguayan tried his luck from distance and beat the keeper on the bounce to make it 0-1 for Monterrey.
It looked like the Rayados were going to take all three points from the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, but Pumas took advantage of a late set piece to tie it up. In the 91st minute, the hosts won a corner kick, and Jesús Gallardo volleyed it home to ensure the teams would share the spoils.
With the 1-1 draw, Pumas reach two points while Monterrey reaches four.
Leones Negros 0-2 Toluca (Group 1)
Toluca earned a 0-2 away win against Leones Negros to remain perfect in the Copa MX. The result ends Leones’ own unbeaten start to the tournament. Toluca opened the scoring in the 16th minute, when Martín Abundiz received the ball in the box and sent his shot to the near post to make it 0-1.
The Universidad de Guadalajara were in the game right until the death, but they were unable to find an equalizer. Then, in the 93rd minute, the Diablos Rojos ensured the victory with a late goal. The keeper saved the initial shot by Alexis Canelo, but the rebound fell for Juan Felipe Delgadillo, who made it 0-2.
With the 0-2 win, Toluca reaches six points while Leones still have three.
FC Juárez 0-1 Chivas de Guadalajara (Group 7)
Chivas de Guadalajara beat FC Juárez by the minimum difference in this Group 7 game. The result leaves Juárez winless while Chivas has now won two in a row.
17-year-old José Juan Macías scored the lone goal of the game in the 11th minute – his first goal in an official game for El Rebaño – to give Chivas the lead and, eventually, the victory.
With the 0-1 win, Chivas reaches six points while Juárez remains on zero.
