Apertura 2017 Week 4 Preview: Sunday’s Games

Pumas UNAM vs Lobos BUAP – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (13th) fell 2-1 to América last weekend to give the universitarios back-to-back losses. Pumas is winless in three in all competitions after a 1-1 draw with Monterrey in the Copa MX in midweek, and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways when they return home to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario for this one. Pumas is unbeaten at home to date in league play.

As for Lobos BUAP (1st), the licántropos beat Pachuca 3-2 last weekend to remain unbeaten this season. The newly-promoted team will look to continue their great start to the season – and remain in first place – with another win here. Lobos are the league’s leading goalscorers, with nine goals from their first three games, and they’ll look for another strong attacking performance in this one.

Santos Laguna vs Veracruz – 7:30 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (10th) drew 1-1 with Monarcas Morelia last weekend to remain both unbeaten and winless this season. The Laguneros will look to finally get into the “W” column when they return home to the Estadio Corona for this one. They have a decent attacking record, and are averaging just over a goal a game, but they need to make those goals stand up; they have yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

As for Veracruz (14th), the Tiburones Rojos beat Puebla 2-0 last weekend to give them their first win of the season. They followed that up with a loss in midweek, however, as they fell 1-2 to León in the Copa MX. They need to keep winning to move out of last place in the Tabla de Cociente, and the fact that they’ve now scored in two consecutive games (after going goalless in back-to-back games to start the season) is an encouraging sign. Veracruz will look to get their first road win of the season here.
