Apertura 2017 Week 5 Preview: Friday’s Games

Monarcas Morelia vs Pachuca – 8:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Monarcas Morelia (14th) fell 2-1 to Querétaro last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season. The michoacanos remain winless in the Apertura, with last weekend’s loss ending a run of draws. They’ll look to finally get that elusive first victory when they return home to the Estadio Morelos for this one, but they have one of the lowest-scoring attacks in the league and have managed just one goal in their two home games to date.

As for Pachuca (15th), the Tuzos beat Tigres UANL 2-1 last weekend to give them their first win of the season. Pachuca also won in midweek, where they beat Querétaro 0-1 in the Copa MX, and they’ll look to keep that streak alive in this one. The Tuzos have also had some trouble in front of goal this season, but they’ll look to take advantage of another struggling team in this one.

Tijuana vs Santos Laguna – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Tijuana (18th) drew 1-1 with Puebla last weekend, and then repeated that same result against the same opponent in the Copa MX in midweek. The Xolos remain winless in the Apertura, but last weekend’s draw at least gave them their first point – and first goal – of the season. Tijuana will now look to make their home field advantage count as they look for their first victory in this one.

As for Santos Laguna (13th), the Laguneros fell 2-3 to Veracruz last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season. They are also winless in league play, with that loss ending a run of draws, although they did win in midweek with a 2-0 victory against FC Juárez. Santos is still unbeaten on the road, and they’ll look to add to Tijuana’s struggles with an away win in this one.
