The game started off perfectly for the visitors, who took the lead in just the 2nd minute. Avilés Hurtado played in Rogelio Funes Mori, who took a touch into the box and then fired to make it 0-1.
León soon had a chance to equalize when the ball was loose in Monterrey’s six-yard box, but they couldn’t put it away, with Jorge Pereyra hitting the crossbar after a series of rebounds.
Then, in the 15th minute, Monterrey made it 2-0. Dorlan Pabón scored direct from a free kick, sending the ball into the upper corner to give the Rayados a comfortable lead.
In the second half, León looked to reduce the deficit and they found the breakthrough just past the hour mark. In the 62nd minute, Pereyra saw his shot cleared off the line by José María Basanta with the keeper beaten, but the rebound fell to Mauro Boselli, who made it 1-2.
That goal inspired León, who began searching frenetically for an equalizer. But Monterrey’s defense stood firm and La Fiera was largely limited to shots from outside the box. In the end, the Rayados held on to the lead and with it, first place in the table.
With the 1-2 win, Monterrey reaches 13 points while León still has four.
