Atlas vs Lobos BUAP – Jornada 6 Recap and Highlights

A missed penalty, a red card, and two late goals were the highlights as Atlas and Lobos BUAP played out an entertaining 1-1 draw. The result ends a three-game losing streak for the Rojinegros but leaves them winless in four, while Lobos remain winless in three.

The game started at a good rhythm and Atlas had the first notable chance in the 5th minute. Fidel Martínez won the ball and got into the box, but his shot was saved by José Francisco Canales.

Then, in the 10th minute, Lobos had a golden opportunity to take the lead after Miguel Ángel Fraga was called for a foul in the box. Julian Quiñones stepped up to take the penalty kick, but he put it off the bar to keep the game goalless.

At the other end, Matías Alustiza hit the crossbar for Atlas as both teams pressed for a goal. But the night got more complicated for the Rojinegros in the 32nd minute when Jaine Barreiro was given a straight red card for a foul on Luis Quiñones. Barreiro was sent off over the weekend as well, but was cleared to play in this game after a successful red card appeal.

With an extra man, the licántropos were able to control possession and make Fraga work with dangerous shots from Alfonso Sánchez and the Quiñoneses, but the game remained 0-0 at halftime.

In the 67th minute, substitute Amaury Escoto nearly gave Lobos the lead with his acrobatic attempt, but the visitors were once again denied by the woodwork. Atlas, too, was stopped by the goal frame with Canales deflecting a shot by Christian Tabó against the post.

The breakthrough finally came in the 87th minute, when Fidel Martínez sent a cross into the box for Daniel Arreola, who headed it home to give 10-man Atlas the 1-0 lead.

But that lead lasted just two minutes before Escoto pounced on a loose ball in the box to make it 1-1 in the waning moments. Neither team was able to find a winning goal in the few minutes remaining as they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Atlas reaches seven points while Lobos reach eight.
