The visitors took the lead early on. In the 9th minute, Gael Sandoval sent in a cross from the left and Julio César Furch was there to head the ball home, making it 0-1 for the Laguneros.
León immediately began looking for a response and they created a chance through Luis Montes in the 22nd minute, but he couldn’t make the proper contact and the chance went begging. Santos came close to a second moments after that, but Osvaldo Martínez’s shot was blocked by the defense.
Then, in the 40th minute, Diego de Buen added to the lead with his shot from outside the box. Santos looked comfortable with the 0-2 lead, but in the second half León was able to reduce the deficit.
In the 58th minute, Mauro Boselli got on the end of a through ball, got past the keeper, and made it 1-2 with his right-footed shot. The game became an end-to-end affair after that as León looked for a tying goal and Santos looked to restore their two-goal cushion.
León’s hopes of an equalizer weren’t helped by the late sending-off of Jorge Pereyra, who earned his second yellow card of the night in the 86th minute, and in the end Santos held on for their first win of the season.
With the 1-2 win, Santos reaches seven points while León still has seven.
