León Parts Ways with Javier Torrente

Just hours after León’s 1-2 loss to Santos Laguna this Saturday, the club announced the departure of head coach Javier Torrente.

“We are passing through a critical moment, which does not correspond to our great past nor to the winning spirit that has characterized us in recent times,” club president Jesús Martínez wrote in a statement. “I want to deeply thank ‘Professor’ Javier Torrente and all of his technical staff for the work and effort they put into their time at the head of our institution. It has not been at all easy to make the decision to end his time as coach.”

Torrente was named coach of León just under a year ago, on August 30, 2016, and he leaves the club with La Fiera sitting in 14th place with seven points, the product of two wins, one draw, and four losses.

Rubén Ayala has been named interim head coach of León as the club looks ahead to their midweek Copa MX game against Alebrijes de Oaxaca.
