Apertura 2017 Week 8 Preview: Friday’s Games

Puebla vs Cruz Azul – 8:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Puebla (18th) fell 2-1 to Toluca last time out to send the Poblanos into last place in the table. Puebla has lost their last two and is winless at home this season with two draws and a loss. Also of concern to Puebla is their position in the Tabla de Cociente that controls relegation; another loss here could see them fall as low as 16th. A combination of an anemic offense (four goals scored) and a leaky defense (12 goals allowed) has kept Puebla struggling, and they need to right the ship as soon as possible.

As for Cruz Azul (6th), La Máquina drew 1-1 with Monterrey last time out to remain unbeaten this season. They have just two wins to their name, though, with their other five games all ending in draws. They’ll look to keep their unbeaten streak alive and get back to winning ways when they take on a struggling Puebla side in this one.

Atlas vs Tigres UANL – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Atlas (13th) fell 2-1 to Necaxa last time out to remain winless in five. The Rojinegros are also winless in two at home, where they are 1-1-1 this season. Atlas will want to get back on track when they return home to the Estadio Jalisco for this one, but they’ve had some defensive woes and they’ll be facing a very prolific attack in this one.

As for Tigres UANL (3rd), the universitarios beat Lobos BUAP 3-2 last time out to keep them unbeaten in three. They are winless on the road, however, with two draws and a loss, and they’ll look to change that statistic in this one. They’re tied for the best attack in the league with 15 goals scored, although more than two-thirds of those goals have come at home. Nevertheless, a victory here could put them within touching distance of first place – and rivals Monterrey.
