Apertura 2017 Week 8 Preview: Sunday’s Games

Pumas UNAM vs Tijuana – 1:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (16th) fell 1-0 to Veracruz last weekend to extend their losing streak to three games and keep them winless on the road this season. The universitarios will look to get back to winning ways when they return home in this one, although they’ll be without the suspended Jesús Gallardo. Pumas have had some trouble in front of goal this season; they’re averaging less than a goal a game overall and even at home they haven’t been prolific, with four goals in three games.

As for Tijuana (7th), the Xolos beat Pachuca 2-1 last time out to extend their winning streak to three games and their unbeaten streak to four. They’ll look to keep that streak alive when they face a struggling Pumas side in this one. Tijuana has a two-game road unbeaten streak going and they’ve really found their footing in recent weeks after a slow start to the season.

Santos Laguna vs Toluca – 7:30 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (14th) beat León 1-2 last time out to give the Laguneros their first victory of the season. They’ll look to build on that to earn their first home win in this one. Santos needs to keep winning to move up the table as well; they are just two points out of last place going into this game. Their attack has been decent this season but a somewhat leaky defense has caused them problems.

As for Toluca (4th), the Diablos Rojos beat Puebla 2-1 last time out to remain unbeaten at home this season. Toluca is no longer unbeaten overall, though, after they fell to Monterrey in Jornada 6. They also have yet to win on the road, where they have two draws and the aforementioned loss. They’ll look to take advantage of a struggling home team in this one to end their road winless streak.
