Chivas came out attacking from the opening whistle and Rodolfo Pizarro sent a shot just wide early on. Pachuca had early chances of their own, with Erick Gutiérrez’s header forcing a good save out of Rodolfo Cota.
Then, in the 15th minute, El Rebaño took the lead. Miscommunication between Óscar Pérez and Emmanuel García allowed Michael Pérez to get on the end of a loose ball and finish it off to make it 0-1 for Chivas.
In the 30th minute, the visitors made it 0-2 when Javier López finished off a series of rebounds with his left-footed shot; six minutes later, Chivas put the game to bed when Carlos Fierro finished off a cross from Pizarro to make it 0-3 before halftime.
Pachuca made a halftime substitution and looked for a better showing in the second 45. They were able to reduce the deficit, with substitute Franco Jara heading home a cross from Erick Gutiérrez in the 66th minute to make it 1-3, but the Tuzos were unable to fight back any further than that.
Diego Alonso was ejected from the sidelines after grabbing Michael Pérez’s sleeve to remonstrate against the Chivas player kicking the ball away and tempers flared on the field as well throughout the final 10 minutes.
With the 1-3 win, Chivas reaches eight points while Pachuca still has nine.
