Toluca vs Querétaro – Jornada 9 Recap and Highlights

Toluca scored three times in five minutes as they earned a 3-2 victory against Querétaro. The result keeps the Diablos Rojos unbeaten at home this season while the Gallos Blancos are winless in five.

Toluca started off attacking from the opening whistle and they had their first good chance in just the 3rd minute. From a corner kick, Fernando Uribe put the ball on frame, only to be denied by Tiago Volpi. Two minutes later, Alexis Canelo had a good shot go wide.

The hosts took the lead in the 25th minute. Efraín Velarde tried his luck from distance, and although his shot was blocked by a Querétaro player, Canelo cleaned up the loose ball to make it 1-0.

Moments after the restart, it was 2-0. Hiram Mier lost the ball as he tried to play out of the back and Canelo took advantage to score his second of the game.

Then, in the 30th minute, Uribe got on the end of a corner kick to make it 3-0 and put Toluca in complete control of the game.

But in the 40th minute, Querétaro was able to reduce the deficit. Maximiliano Perg conceded a penalty and Erbin Trejo converted the spot kick to make it 3-1. Four minutes later, Trejo send in a cross for Everaldo Stum, who made it 3-2 and ensured the second half would be interesting.

The Gallos Blancos pressed forward as they looked for an equalizer and in the 47th minute they earned a second PK. However, this time Luis García was able to make the save on Trejo to keep Toluca in front.

It was harder than it needed to be, but in the end Toluca was able to hold on for the victory.

With the 3-2 win, Toluca reaches 16 points while Querétaro still has nine.
