With Veracruz sitting 11th in the league table – but last in the relegation standings – the Tiburones Rojos have parted ways with Juan Antonio Luna and replaced him with José Saturnino Cardozo.

Luna spent six months in charge of Veracruz and leaves them with a 3-1-5 record in the Apertura 2017. The Tiburones Rojos struggled in the Copa MX, where they were one of just two Liga MX teams to fail to advance out of the group stage.
Cardozo is an experienced Liga MX coach, with the Paraguayan having overseen clubs such as Toluca, Querétaro, Jaguares de Chiapas, and Puebla. He has coached a total of 206 games in Mexico – league and cup – with an overall record of 73-55-78.
In the press release announcing Cardozo’s hiring, Veracruz noted that the club “hopes that José Saturnino Cardozo, with his experience and hard work, will help the team to reach its short- and long- term objectives.”
