Jonathan Rodríguez Fined for Obscene Gesture

Following Santos Laguna’s Jornada 9 game against Cruz Azul, the Disciplinary Committee opened an investigation regarding Jonathan Rodríguez allegedly making obscene gestures to the crowd.

The Disciplinary Committee determined that Rodríguez violated the FMF Code of Ethics as well as the Declaration of Fair Play and Sporting Ethics by making the gestures. As a result, they fined the Santos player 150,980 pesos (about $8,275 U.S.).

The Committee reported that the decision to fine Rodríguez was based on the precedent set by other similar cases and they noted that violating the Code of Ethics results in economic sanctions, rather than suspensions.
