América took the lead but couldn’t hold it as León scored twice in the final four minutes to earn a 2-1 win. The result extends La Fiera’s winning streak to three games while leaving the Águilas winless in two.
Both teams came out looking to score from the opening whistle and the first chance of the game came in the first minute. Andrés Mosquera cut the ball back for Luis Montes, but his shot went just wide.
América had early chances of their own, with Mateus Uribe forcing a save out of William Yarbrough in the 6th minute. The game continued to be end to end, with chances from Oribe Peralta and Carlos Darwin Quintero – who hit the bar – for the Águilas and Mauro Boselli for León, but it remained 0-0 at halftime.
The breakthrough came early in the second half. In the 54th minute, Quintero sent in a free kick that Pablo Aguilar finished off to give the visitors the 0-1 lead.
León looked for a response, with Luis Montes in particular looking dangerous in the attack, but as time wound down it looked like América’s lone goal would stand up.
Then, in the 89th minute, Mauro Boselli made it 1-1 when he headed home a cross from Elías Hernandez. That wasn’t enough for León; in stoppage time, substitute Hernán Darío Burbano put La Fiera ahead 2-1 with his backheeled finish.
With the 2-1 win, León reaches 16 points while América still has 17.
