Tijuana vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 11 Recap and Highlights

Tigres UANL earned their first road victory of the season with a 0-1 win against Tijuana. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten in five, while snapping the Xolos’ own six-game unbeaten run.

Tigres had the first chance in the 5th minute, but Gibrán Lajud made a good save on André-Pierre Gignac, and as time wore on the hosts began to have the better of the run of play. Tijuana came close at least three times, but Nahuel Guzmán was alert to the danger.

Then, in the 53rd minute, Tigres took the lead. Eduardo Vargas received the ball from Javier Aquino and sent his left-footed volley into the back of the net to make it 0-1 for the visitors.

Enner Valencia had a good chance to make it 0-2 in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper took the ball off his feet. Then Tijuana could have leveled it in the 67th with an attempt from Luis Mendoza, but Tigres’ lone goal stood up.

Tijuana poured the pressure on as time wound down, and they came as close as the woodwork when Víctor Malcorra hit the post in the 84th minute. Then Gignac nearly turned a dangerous free kick into his own net in the 87th. But in the end, the Xolos couldn’t find the breakthrough.

With the 0-1 win, Tigres reach 16 points while Tijuana still has 14.
