The first half was an intense affair, with both Querétaro and Necaxa pushing forward with intent. Tiago Volpi and Marcelo Barovero were both called into action to preserve the scoreline, and despite a number of attempts by both teams, the game remained 0-0 at halftime.
But just minutes into the second half, the Rayos took the lead. Pablo Velázquez made it 1-0 for Necaxa with his shot from inside the box.
Querétaro threw numbers forward as they looked for a response, but they couldn’t get past Barovero. Necaxa searched for an insurance goal, but Volpi made a pair of important saves to keep the game within reach for the Gallos.
In the end, the lone goal held up for Necaxa and they moved up into sixth in the table with the victory.
With the 1-0 win, Necaxa reaches 16 points while Querétaro still has nine.
