Tigres dominated possession in the first half, but chances were few and far between for both sides. León’s Elías Hernández had one of the clearer opportunities of the opening stanza, but his shot was deflected wide of goal.
The intensity picked up in the second half, although the the final touch was still lacking. Nahuel Guzmán saved everything that got through to him, while Tigres threatened at the other end primarily through Eduardo Vargas and André-Pierre Gignac.
The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute. Luis Montes played in Elías Hernández, who made no mistake with his finish to give La Fiera the 1-0 lead.
The night quickly took another turn for the worse for Tigres when Jorge Torres Nilo was given a straight red card in the 87th minute. With the numerical disadvantage, Tigres were unable to find an equalizer as León made their lone goal stand up.
With the 1-0 win, León reaches 22 points while Tigres still have 19.
