Santos Laguna vs Atlas – Jornada 13 Recap and Highlights

Atlas beat Santos Laguna by the minimum difference in the last game of match week 13. The result leaves the Laguneros winless at home this season and winless in four overall, while the Rojinegros extended their winning streak to three games.

Santos was looking to get their season on track and they created chances from the beginning. But despite having several point-blank opportunities, they couldn’t find the breakthrough as Óscar Ustari made the necessary saves.

Atlas had just one chance of note in the first half, when they were inches away from opening the scoring. In the 38th minute, José Madueña saw his shot hit the post to send the game to halftime goalless.

Atlas made two halftime substitutions and they began to look more dangerous in the second half.

Santos hit the woodwork in the 50th minute through Julio César Furch and then a minute later, Atlas opened the scoring at the other end. Substitute Matías Alustiza sent a long ball into the box where Milton Caraglio touched it on for Brayan Garnica to apply the final touch. 0-1.

The goal added to Atlas’s confidence and the Rojinegros controlled the game after that. They had chances to add to their lead as well, such as a 70th minute attempt by Alustiza that Jonathan Orozco sent out for a corner, but in the end the lone goal stood up.

With the 0-1 win, Atlas reaches 16 points while Santos still has nine.
