Lobos BUAP earned just their second home win of the season with a 3-0 victory against Cruz Azul. The result snaps a three-game losing streak for the licántropos, while La Máquina’s inconsistency continues – they have alternated wins and losses for their last six matches.
The hosts started the game off well and they opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Juan Carlos Medina got into the box and sent a cross towards the six-yard box; the defense was unable to clear it effectively, and Julian Quiñones finished off the loose ball to make it 1-0 for Lobos.
Cruz Azul looked to respond but they were largely limited to shots from distance, which Jorge Villalpando was able to deal with. Then, in the 36th minute, Lobos added to their lead.
César Cercado played the ball up from the back and Jonathan Fabbro took it into the box, where he sent his diagonal shot into the net to make it 2-0.
The hosts continued to control the game in the second half, and in the 71st minute Lobos won a penalty kick. Quiñones stepped up to take it and he converted it to give the licántropos an unassailable 3-0 lead.
With the 3-0 win, Lobos reach 17 points while Cruz Azul still has 21.
