The first half was high-intensity, and both goalkeepers were kept busy. The hosts had their first good chance through Camilo Sanvezzo, but Jonathan Orozco was there to make the save on the Brazilian’s header.
Despite Querétaro’s opportunities, it would be the visitors who opened the scoring. In the 26th minute, Djaniny played in Julio César Furch, who made it 0-1 for Santos.
The Gallos Blancos quickly responded and they tied it up in the 30th minute. Sanvezzo received the ball just inside the right edge of the box and sent his looping shot into the far corner to make it 1-1.
Nevertheless, it took Santos just three minutes to recover the lead. In the 33rd minute, Furch scored his second of the night as he beat the onrushing Tiago Volpi to give the visitors the 1-2 lead.
In the second half, Querétaro threw numbers forward as they looked for another equalizer. However, despite spending most of the half in the Laguneros’ defensive third, the Gallos were unable to find a second goal.
With the 1-2 win, Santos reaches 15 points while Querétaro still has 11.
