Veracruz vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Jornada 14 Recap and Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara climbed out of last place with a 2-3 away win against Veracruz. The result snaps a five-game winless streak for El Rebaño, while the Tiburones Rojos have now lost two in a row and are winless in four.

Veracruz nearly grabbed the lead just two minutes into the game when José Arturo Rivas won a header inside the box, but Rodolfo Cota reacted well and sent the ball out for a corner kick. The Tiburones continued to press and Cota and the defense were kept busy in the opening quarter of an hour.

But then Chivas began to create chances of their own, with Rodolfo Pizarro hitting the post in the 23rd minute. Soon after that, the visitors opened the scoring.

In the 26th minute, Michelle Benítez brought the ball down with his chest and then shot past the onrushing Melitón Hernández to give Chivas the 0-1 lead.

Ten minutes after that, Pizarro made it 0-2. Isaác Brizuela got into the box and sent the ball to Pizarro. His initial shot was saved, but he followed up the rebound and scored at the second time of asking to give Chivas what looked like a comfortable lead.

But moments into the second half, Veracruz reduced the deficit. Daniel Villalva finished off a ball from Leandro Díaz to make it 1-2 in the 47th minute.

Five minutes later, it was tied. Cristian Menéndez made it 2-2 when he finished off a cross from Villalva at the far post in the 53rd minute.

However, Chivas continued to press forward and in the 68th minute they retook the lead, this time for good. Eduardo López tried his luck from outside the box and his left-footed shot beat Melitón to make it 2-3.

With the 2-3 win, Chivas reaches 12 points while Veracruz still has 14.
