Copa MX Quarterfinals: Pachuca vs Tijuana – Recap and Highlights

The quarterfinal round of the Apertura 2017 Copa MX wrapped up tonight with Pachuca earning a comprehensive 4-0 win against Tijuana.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute after receiving a penalty kick. Franco Jara converted the spot kick to make it 1-0 for Pachuca. Five minutes later, Tijuana had a penalty of their own after Alfonso Blanco was called for a foul in the box, but the goalkeeper proceeded to save Víctor Malcorra’s attempt to keep the Tuzos in front.

In the 34th minute, Pachuca added to their lead. Raúl López sent in a cross for Víctor Guzmán, who was unmarked and beat Gibrán Lajud with his well-placed header.

Keisuke Honda then made it 3-0 just before halftime when he received the ball in midfield, took it all the way into the box, got past the defenders, and lifted the ball over Lajud to put Pachuca comfortably in control of the game.

In the second half, the Tuzos added a fourth when Guzmán beat the offside trap to finish off service from Ángelo Sagal in the 65th minute.

In the waning moments, Tijuana had a chance at a consolation goal when they were awarded a second penalty kick. This time Miller Bolaños stepped up to take it, but the result was the same: Blanco made the save to keep the Xolos off the board.

With the 4-0 win, Pachuca advances to the semifinals while Tijuana is eliminated.
