Forty-five days after Monterrey and Santos Laguna played the first twelve minutes of their Jornada 11 game – which was then postponed due to weather – the Rayados and Laguneros finished the match, which ultimately ended up 1-1.
The first good chance came for Santos in the 17th minute, when Djaniny nodded on a clearance from Jonathan Orozco, which set up Jonathan Rodríguez to get into the box and shoot, but his attempt went high.
Then, in the 25th minute, the visitors took the lead. Combination play between Djaniny, Osvaldo Martínez, and Brian Lozano, ended with Lozano sending the ball past the onrushing Hugo González to make it 0-1 for the Laguneros.
Monterrey reacted well to falling behind and began to have more possession and spend more time in the attacking third. In the 35th minute, Jorge Benítez was pushed on the edge of the box, which resulted in a penalty kick for the Rayados.
Dorlan Pabón stepped up to take it, and he converted it to tie the game 1-1.
The second half started out end-to-end, with both teams pushing for a second goal. Then, in the 61st minute, Santos was reduced to 10 men after Ventura Alvarado received his second yellow card of the game.
Monterrey dominated possession, particularly in the closing stages of the game, but they couldn’t make their numerical advantage count. The Rayados sent cross after cross into the box and won several corner kicks late, but they couldn’t get the ball back into the net.
With the 1-1 draw, Monterrey reaches 34 points while Santos reaches 18.
