Cruz Azul has confirmed that, “by mutual agreement”, Francisco “Paco” Jémez has left the head coaching position with the club. La Máquina and Jémez decided not to renew the coach’s contract for the Clausura 2018 season.
Jémez joined the club a year ago; in the Clausura 2017, they finished 11th with 21 points; this season, they finished 6th with 27, putting Cruz Azul back in the playoffs for the first time in three years. However, they were eliminated in the first round due to the higher seed tiebreaker after a 0-0 aggregate draw with América.
The Spanish coach is set to return to his native country, where he has previously coached Rayo Vallecano and Granada.
Cruz Azul wished Jémez “the most success” and thanked him for his work with the club.
