Pedro Caixinha Cleared to Coach Cruz Azul’s First Game

The Disciplinary Committee has reported that Pedro Caixinha has been cleared to coach Cruz Azul against Tijuana in their opening game of the Clausura 2018.

Caixinha had a pending suspension from his time as coach of Santos Laguna after he was ejected from the sidelines in a game against América in 2015.

However, Article 41 of the Regulations for Sanctions notes that “members of the coaching staff who have been sanctioned with fewer than five games of suspension, or who have fewer than five games of suspension remaining to be served, can, after a year, void their suspension via a fine for every remaining game of their suspension.”

As Caixinha’s pending suspension met those criteria, the new Cruz Azul coach opted to pay the fine of 11,000 pesos (about $556 U.S.) in order to be able to make his Clausura debut with La Máquina this Saturday.
