Cruz Azul vs Tijuana – Jornada 1 Recap and Highlights

Neither team could find the breakthrough as Cruz Azul and Tijuana played out a 0-0 draw in their Clausura 2018 opener.

La Máquina controlled much of the first half as they enjoyed both possession and chances. In the 18th minute, the hosts had a good opportunity when Carlos Fierro played in Felipe Mora, but the Chilean couldn’t put his shot on target.

Cruz Azul had another chance in the 28th minute through Rafael Baca, but that shot was stopped by Gibrán Lajud. The hosts couldn’t find the breakthrough in the first half, and in the second Tijuana began to get into the game.

The Xolos very nearly opened the scoring in the 56th minute, when Víctor Malcorra played in Michael Orozco, but he managed to put the ball over the bar from within the six-yard box.

There were chances for both teams throughout the half, although most were far from clear-cut. Ángel Mena came closest for Cruz Azul with a free kick that Lajud mishandled, although the keeper was able to collect it on the second attempt.

Then, in the 83rd minute, La Máquina had another chance to claim the lead when Baca went one-on-one with Lajud, only for the goalkeeper to make the save and preserve the draw.

With the 0-0 draw, Cruz Azul and Tijuana both reach one point.
