With Querétaro sitting penultimate in the relegation standings, the Gallos Blancos were hoping to pick up the three points in front of their home crowd. The hosts did have the majority of possession, but they were unable to do much with it.
Querétaro did little to threaten Agustín Marchesín’s goal, aside from a 14th-minute effort by Javier Güemez that went just wide. At the other end, América made their chances count.
In the waning moments of the first half, Henry Martín beat Thiago Volpi to make it 0-1 for the visitors with his golazo.
In the second half, the Águilas looked to add to their lead. Oribe Peralta had an early header that forced a good save out of Volpi, but after that Querétaro once again began to control the ball.
However, like in the first half, the Gallos lacked effectiveness in front of goal and they ultimately created little work for Marchesín as América made their lone goal stand up.
With the 0-1 win, América reaches three points while Querétaro still has zero.
