Chivas controlled the majority of possession in the first half, although Cruz Azul had a few dangerous chances through Martín Rodríguez and Felipe Mora. Nevertheless, it was the hosts who opened the scoring.
In the 34th minute, Rodolfo Pizarro took the ball down to the end line before sending a cross into the box, which Carlos Cisneros headed past Jesús Corona to make it 1-0 for Chivas.
Cruz Azul responded in the second half, however. Shortly after the restart, they earned a penalty kick after Carlos Fierro was fouled in the box. Fierro himself took the spot kick and he converted it to make it 1-1 in the 49th minute.
Chivas still had more possession after the equalizer, but they were unable to do much to trouble Corona. Then, late in the half, Cruz Azul completed the comeback.
In the 77th minute, Rafael Baca gave La Máquina the lead with his golazo from outside the box to make it 1-2. Then, in stoppage time, Felipe Mora added an insurance goal when he finished off a counterattack started by Fierro to make the final score 1-3.
With the 1-3 win, Cruz Azul reaches four points while Chivas still has one.
