Veracruz vs Monterrey – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Veracruz lost ground in the relegation fight as they fell 0-2 to Monterrey. The result leaves the Tiburones Rojos winless while the Rayados earned their first victory and remain unbeaten this season.

The game started slowly, with neither team able to take control. Monterrey suffered a setback in the 19th minute when goalkeeper Hugo González had to be subbed out with an apparent muscle injury, but Veracruz was unable to do much to test the backup keeper.

The visitors controlled possession and by the half-hour mark they began to create dangerous chances. Carlos Sánchez came close with a shot from the edge of the box that went just wide of the mark before Monterrey opened the scoring a few minutes later.

In the 33rd minute, Arturo González sent his shot from outside the box past a diving Pedro Gallese to give the Rayados the 0-1 lead.

In the second half, Veracruz searched in vain for an equalizer while Monterrey managed their lead. The visitors put the game out of reach with a late goal by Dorlan Pabón, who cut past a pair of defenders before sending his low shot into the net to make it 0-2 in the 85th minute.

Veracruz did put the ball in the back of the net in stoppage time, but the would-be goal was disallowed for offside.

With the 0-2 win, Monterrey reaches four points while Veracruz still has one.
