Querétaro 3-1 Monarcas Morelia
Querétaro moved into first place in Group 9 with a 3-1 victory against Monarcas Morelia in their Clausura 2018 Copa MX debut. The Gallos Blancos took the lead in the 21st minute through Édgar Benítez, whose header made it 1-0 for the hosts. Morelia looked to respond but Querétaro’s defense stood firm, and the hosts had a few chances of their own to add to the lead.
Then, early in the second half, Morelia took advantage of their first set piece of the game to make it 1-1 through Emanuel Loeschbor. But Matías Britos restored Querétaro’s lead in the 63rd minute with a header of his own. Then, in the 83rd minute, Yerson Candelo added an insurance goal as his shot to the upper corner made it 3-1.
With the 3-1 win, Querétaro reaches three points while Morelia still has three.
Lobos BUAP 2-0 Pumas UNAM
Lobos BUAP earned their first victory of the competition with a 2-0 win against Pumas UNAM in this Group 5 game. The licántropos came out attacking as they looked for their first positive result of the Clausura 2018, but they were repeatedly denied by the goalkeeper. Lobos’ own keeper was busy as well, although neither team could find the breakthrough in the first half.
It wasn’t until the 85th minute that Lobos took the lead. Carlos Morales sent in a corner kick and Juan García finished it off to make it 1-0 for the hosts. Two minutes later, Irven Ávila finished off a counterattack to make it 2-0 and ensure Lobos’ first victory of the season.
With the 2-0 win, Lobos reach three points while Pumas still have zero.
Dorados de Sinaloa 1-2 Monterrey
Monterrey came from behind to earn a 1-2 victory against Dorados de Sinaloa in their Group 3 debut. The result keeps Dorados winless after two rounds. All the goals came in the second half in this one, with Dorados taking the lead in the 63rd minute. Vinicio Angulo’s header took a slight deflection off the defense, just enough to wrong-foot the keeper and make it 1-0 for the hosts.
But Monterrey soon responded. In the 74th minute, Dorlan Pabón found Julio Cruz in the box, and he tied it up 1-1. It looked like a draw would be the final result, but in the 90th minute the Rayados completed the comeback through Carlos Sánchez, whose volleyed effort made it 1-2 for Monterrey.
With the 1-2 win, Monterrey reaches three points while Dorados still have zero.
