Santos Laguna got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory against 10-man Monarcas Morelia. The result keeps Santos perfect at home this season while the michoacanos saw their unbeaten start to the Clausura 2018 ended as they remain winless on the road.
The first half started off as an end-to-end affair, and Santos had a chance to open the scoring in just the 3rd minute, when Jonathan Rodríguez sent his shot just over the bar. Then, in the 11th minute, Morelia had the ball in the back of the net but the would-be goal by Mario Osuna was disallowed for offside.
After the first 15 minutes or so, the game settled down, with the pace of play slowing down. Attacking forays became more deliberate but neither team could create more clear chances before halftime.
But the Guerreros took the lead shortly after the restart. In the 53rd minute, Djaniny scored his league-leading fifth goal of the young season to give Santos the 1-0 lead with a low shot to the far corner.
Morelia was unable to find an equalizer and the night ended on a sour note for the visitors as Ray Sandoval made his league debut in the 83rd minute only to be red-carded a minute later for a foul on Jonathan Rodríguez.
With the 1-0 win, Santos reaches six points while Morelia still has four.
