Querétaro took the lead but couldn’t hold it as León came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps La Fiera winless in two while the Gallos Blancos are unbeaten in three despite finishing the game with just 10 men.
The hosts had the first good chance of the game in the 7th minute, when Nacho González headed a corner kick onto the crossbar; the rebound fell to Luis Montes, but he couldn’t put it on target.
Querétaro responded with a header from Everardo Stum, but William Yarbrough made the save. Then the night took a turn for the worse for the visitors when Javier Güemez was given a straight red card in the 20th minute for a hard foul on Osvaldo Rodríguez.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Gallos took the lead before halftime. In the 43rd minute, Andrés Mosquera was called for a handball in the box, giving Querétaro a penalty kick. Edson Puch stepped up and converted it to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
León responded in the second half, which they largely dominated. They kept Tiago Volpi busy in goal, but the Brazilian couldn’t stop everything. In the 74th minute, León tied the game. Luis Montes sent a great ball into the box for Álvaro Ramos, whose header made it 1-1.
They continued to press after the equalizer as they looked to complete the comeback, but they ultimately couldn’t find a second goal.
