Necaxa took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Santos Laguna came back for a 1-2 away win. The result, a second straight win for Santos, lifts the Laguneros into first place in the table while the Rayos saw their six-game unbeaten streak halted and are now winless in two.
The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute, when Víctor Dávila received the ball in the box, got around José Abella, and beat Jonathan Orozco to make it 1-0 for Necaxa.
But the Rayos’ celebrations were cut short as Santos tied the game just three minutes later. In the 18th minute, Djaniny took the ball towards the box and bounced it off Miguel Ángel Ponce before grabbing the rebound and beating Marcelo Barovero from the top of the box to make it 1-1.
After the equalizer, Santos continued to press as they looked to complete the comeback. They got their second goal in the 36th minute; Djaniny sent in a cross for Julio César Furch, who was closely marked by Ignor Lichnovsky. It was the unfortunate defender who applied the final touch as his own-goal made it 1-2 for Santos.
Necaxa looked for a response in the second half, but they were unable to muster one. The night ended on an additional sour note for the hosts as Matías Fernández was sent off with his second yellow card in stoppage time.
With the 1-2 win, Santos reaches 20 points while Necaxa still has 13.
