América had the better of the chances early on, with Cecilio Domínguez trying his luck in the 7th minute, although Guillermo Burdisso was able to block the shot. León, meanwhile, struggled to generate much in the final third with the absences of Mauro Boselli and Elías Hernández.
In the 26th minute, the Águilas took the lead through Mateus Uribe. William Yarbrough slipped and just barely managed to get a hand to William da Silva’s shot. The ball dribbled into the path of Uribe, who put it into the empty net to make it 1-0.
León looked for an equalizer and Luis Montes played in Andrés Andrade, but he was unable to convert.
In the second half, León came out well-organized in the back and they made it difficult for América to threaten a second. However, substitute Andrés Ibargüen gave the Águilas another dimension and in the 68th minute he combined with Paul Aguilar to set up Uribe for his second of the night.
The closing stages of the game were complicated for América, however, as Aguilar was sent off in the 73rd minute, leaving the hosts to see out the rest of the match with just 10 men.
Nevertheless, León was unable to take advantage as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
With the 2-0 win, América reaches 21 points while León still has 14.
