Querétaro vs Pachuca – 6:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Querétaro (9th) drew 0-0 with Atlas last weekend in a game that saw the Gallos Blancos outplayed. They did walk away with an away point, though, and they’ll now look for their first win when they return home to La Corregidora. Querétaro struggled at home last season, though; they had three times as many wins on the road. They’ll look for a better home performance here, and they’ll be more rested than their opponent, as they did not have a midweek game.
As for Pachuca (14th), the Tuzos fell 0-1 to Monterrey last weekend to start their season with a disappointing home loss. They did get off the mark in midweek, though, where they picked up a 0-2 away win against Celaya in the Copa MX. They’ll now look for a similar result here as Pako Ayestarán looks for his first league win as head coach. The Tuzos struggled defensively last season, with the third-most goals allowed, and they’ll look to show improvement there as well.
América vs Atlas – 8:00 PM – Univision
América (11th) fell 2-1 to Necaxa last weekend to leave them looking for their first win when they come home to the Azteca for this one. The Águilas were nearly invincible at home last season, where they lost just once in ten games, and they’ll look to keep that home-field advantage alive in the Apertura. They’ll also have the advantage of being better-rested than their opponent as América didn’t play a midweek game.
As for Atlas (10th), the Rojinegros played out a frustrating 0-0 draw with Querétaro in which they hit the woodwork three times, missed a penalty, and had a would-be goal disallowed. They followed that up with a 1-2 loss to Zacatepec in the Copa MX in midweek, meaning Atlas will be looking for their first win in all competitions in this one. The Rojinegros were terrible on the road last season, though, amassing just two points – and no wins – through eight away games.
Chivas de Guadalajara vs Cruz Azul – 10:00 PM – Univision
Chivas de Guadalajara (12th) fell 2-1 to Tijuana last weekend to leave them looking for their first win when they return to the Estadio Akron for this one. Chivas had a torrid time at home last season, though, where they failed to win a single game and managed to score just four goals in eight games. They’ll be looking to avoid a repeat of that streak in the Apertura, and they can equal last season’s home point total with a victory in this one.
As for Cruz Azul (1st), La Máquina adjusted nicely to their move to the Azteca with a 3-0 win against Puebla last weekend. They’ll look to stay top of the table with another win in this one and they’d be happy to add to Guadalajara’s home woes in the process. Cruz Azul’s numerous new players will want to continue to impress and find the back of the net here.
