Veracruz vs Monarcas Morelia – 8:00 PM – ESPN Deportes / Univision Deportes
Veracruz (18th) fell 2-0 to Lobos BUAP last weekend to keep them winless this season – and drop them into last place in the relegation standings. The Tiburones Rojos suffered a setback in midweek as well, where they lost 3-0 to América in the Copa MX. All in all, Veracruz has yet to gain a point in either league or cup after four games total. They also have yet to score in league play, where they’ve suffered back-to-back shutouts. Veracruz is at home for this one and they’ll look to right the ship in front of their own fans.
As for Monarcas Morelia (9th), the michoacanos beat Santos Laguna 3-1 last weekend to give them their first win of the Apertura. They followed that up with a 3-2 loss to Chivas de Guadalajara in the Copa MX in midweek, though. They’re also on the road for this one, where they have yet to win (or score) in league play this season. However, Veracruz has been struggling and Morelia will look to take advantage of their host’s weaknesses here.
Atlas vs Pumas UNAM – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes / Unimás
Atlas (14th) fell 3-0 to América last weekend to keep them winless this season. The Rojinegros are unbeaten at home, though, with a draw in their lone outing in the Estadio Jalisco to date. Atlas will look for their first win when they return home for this one. To do so, though, they’ll need to score, which is something they haven’t yet managed to do in league play this season.
As for Pumas UNAM (1st), the universitarios earned a comprehensive 5-3 win over Necaxa last weekend to remain perfect this season with back-to-back victories. Pumas will look to keep that streak alive – and stay in first place – with another win here. They’re also the highest-scoring team in the league to date with multiple goals in both of their games, and they’ll look to give Atlas’s defense some more trouble in this one.
