Santos started the game off better and they created several early chances, while Puebla struggled to get anything going in their own attacking third. In the 14th minute, Jonathan Rodríguez ran on to a through ball and drew out the keeper, but his attempt was cleared away by the defense.
The breakthrough finally came in the 32nd minute. Brian Lozano sent a cross in from the left and Julio César Furch finished it off at the second time of asking – after an initial save by the keeper – to make it 1-0 for the Guerreros.
They added a second just after halftime. In the 50th minute, Furch turned provider as he played in Emilio Orrantia; he took the ball into the box and sent a low shot to the far post to make it 2-0.
Santos came closer to adding a third than Puebla did to scoring their first, with Brian Lozano coming very close from a free kick. In the end, the Laguneros were able to comfortably see out the victory.
With the 2-0 win, Santos reaches six points while Puebla still has three.
