The hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 14th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Miler Bolaños stepped up to take it, but Rodolfo Cota made the save to keep the game 0-0.
The penalty save gave León some confidence and in the 25th minute Mauro Boselli very nearly opened the scoring only for Gibrán Lajud to get his fingertips to the ball.
Then, in the 38th minute, the night got more complicated for Tijuana as Gerardo Chávez was sent off, leaving the Xolos to see out the rest of the game with just 10 men.
León looked to make their extra man count, and in the 52nd minute they took the lead. William Tesillo sent in a cross from the left and Walter González headed it home to make it 0-1 for La Fiera.
Luis Montes came close to adding a second in the 65th minute, but his volley went just wide. Instead, in the 73rd minute, Tijuana struck against the run of play to tie the game. Luis Fernando Fuentes beat Cota with his shot from outside the box, aided by a slight deflection, to make it 1-1.
Neither team was able to go on to find a winning goal as they had to settle for a share of the spoils.
With the 1-1 draw, Tijuana reaches four points while León reaches one.
