Santos Laguna Coach Robert Siboldi Resigns

Santos Laguna’s Apertura 2018 season had gotten off to a good start, with the reigning Liga MX champions winning two of their opening three games. However, coach Robert Siboldi and his entire coaching staff have abruptly resigned after “a conflict with a player”, the club reported in a statement.

Santos cited “a series of differences between the coaching staff that derive from a conflict with a player breaking the code of ethics in an irreparable manner” and said that “the coaching staff, recognizing the seriousness of its actions and omissions, presented its resignation and the club decided to accept it”.

Gerardo Alcoba confirmed in a news conference that he was the player involved, but no details of the conflict were revealed. Club vice president José Riestra has said Santos will sanction Alcoba over the incident.

Salvador Reyes de la Peña, who had been in charge of the youth teams, has been named interim head coach, with Rafael Alejandro Figueroa Gómez as assistant coach, Nicolás Navarro Castro as goalkeeping coach, and Juan Manuel Rodríguez Muñoz as physical trainer.
