Apertura 2018 Week 4 Preview: Friday’s Games

Puebla vs Veracruz – 8:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Puebla (13th) fell 2-0 to Santos Laguna last weekend to keep them winless on the road this season. The Poblanos have yet to register a point – or a goal – as the visiting team; on the other hand, they’re perfect at home, albeit they’ve only had one game in the Estadio Cuauhtémoc so far in the Apertura. Puebla will look for another home win in this one as they look to climb up the table. A win here would be particularly valuable as they’re facing a relegation rival. They’re tied for the worst defensive record in the league, though, so they’ll need a better effort in the back if they want to get their second win of the season here.

As for Veracruz (15th), the Tiburones Rojos drew 2-2 with Monarcas Morelia last weekend to remain winless this season. The draw did give them their first point of the Apertura, though, and they also found the back of the net for the first time this season. Veracruz will look for their first win here as they look to take advantage of Puebla’s porous defense. On the other hand, Veracruz’s defense hasn’t been any better, and they’ll need to shore things up defensively if they want to make their goals stand up this week.

Monarcas Morelia vs Necaxa – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Monarcas Morelia (9th) drew 2-2 with Veracruz last weekend to keep the michoacanos unbeaten in two. Morelia will now look to extend that streak and get back to winning ways when they return home to the Estadio Morelos for this one. Morelia will also have the advantage of some extra rest here as they did not have a midweek game.

As for Necaxa (7th), the Rayos beat Lobos BUAP 1-0 last weekend to remain perfect at home this season. They’re winless on the road in league play, though, although they did pick up a 1-3 away win against Pumas UNAM in the Copa MX in midweek – a particularly sweet victory after the Rayos suffered a heavy loss to Pumas in league play back in week 2. The Rayos will look to build on those consecutive victories and end Morelia’s home unbeaten streak here.
