Apertura 2018 Week 5 Preview: Sunday’s Games

Toluca vs Tijuana – 1:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Toluca (6th) beat Tigres UANL 1-2 last weekend to remain unbeaten in two. The Diablos Rojos are also unbeaten at home and they’ll look for another win as they return to the Estadio Nemesio Diez for this one. Toluca has been a consistent attacking threat in the Apertura, scoring at least once in every game, although they’ve been somewhat up-and-down defensively.

As for Tijuana (10th), the Xolos drew 1-1 with Cruz Azul last weekend to keep them winless in three. They did win in midweek, though, where they earned a 3-1 victory against FC Juárez in the Copa MX. The Xolos have only had one road game this season, which they lost back in Jornada 2. They’ll look for a better road result in this one, but Toluca is a tough team to play at home.

Santos Laguna vs Tigres UANL – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (4th) beat Chivas de Guadalajara 1-2 last weekend to give them back-to-back victories. They fell 2-0 to Celaya in the Copa MX in midweek, though, and they’ll look for a better result as they return to league play here. Santos is perfect at home so far this season and they also have one of the better goal-scoring records.

As for Tigres UANL (8th), the universitarios fell 1-2 to Toluca last weekend to end a long home unbeaten streak. They then posted a 5-1 win against San Luis in the Copa MX in midweek, and they’ll look to build on that result in this one. They’ll be without the suspended Guido Pizarro and Javier Aquino, though, and they have yet to win on the road this season.
