Atlas vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 5 Recap and Highlights

Atlas once again failed to find the back of the net as they suffered a 0-1 loss to Monarcas Morelia. The result gives the michoacanos back-to-back wins and keeps them unbeaten in four, while the Rojinegros remain winless and goalless in the Apertura.

Morelia took the lead early on, with Ray Sandoval sending in a cross on to Irven Ávila. The Peruvian knocked it past José Hernández with his thigh to give the visitors the 0-1 lead in the 8th minute.

Atlas came close to tying it up in the 19th minute through a free kick that Omar González headed on towards goal, but Sebastián Sosa made the save. With the weight of their goalless streak pressing on them, the hosts became increasingly disorganized in their search for an equalizer.

In the second half, Atlas regrouped and began to attack with some more decisiveness. Sosa was tested a few more times, including one difficult stop on a deflected shot, but he maintained the shutout.

Meanwhile, cries of “Fuera Guzmán!”[Guzmán Out] began to ring out around the Jalisco as Morelia saw out the game and Atlas stumbled to another loss.

With the 0-1 win, Morelia reaches 10 points while Atlas still has two.
