América took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Querétaro came back for a 1-1 draw. The result ends a two-game losing streak for the Gallos Blancos but keeps them winless in three overall, while the Águilas saw their three-game winning streak halted but remain unbeaten in four.
Querétaro had the first good chance of the game in the 13th minute when Marcel Ruiz found himself unmarked in the box, but he couldn’t put his header on target and the opportunity went begging.
Neither team was able to stamp their mark on the game in the first half-hour, with play occurring mostly in midfield with few chances at either end. Then, in the 35th minute, América took the lead.
Jorge Sánchez brought the ball down the right and sent in a cross for Oribe Peralta, whose header beat Tiago Volpi to give the visitors the 0-1 lead.
Querétaro came out attacking in the second half as they looked for a response. It took them until the 73rd minute, but they did tie it up in the end. Daniel Villalva sent in a great ball for Camilo Sanvezzo, who beat his defender to head the ball home. 1-1.
Neither team was able to go on to find a second goal and the 1-1 scoreline held.
With the 1-1 draw, Querétaro reaches five points while América reaches 10.
