Monarcas Morelia vs Pachuca – Jornada 6 Recap and Highlights

Monarcas Morelia took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Pachuca came back for a 1-1 draw. The result ends a two-game winning streak for the michoacanos, but keeps them unbeaten in five, while the Tuzos remain unbeaten in three.

Pachuca came out attacking as they looked to build on their first win of the season from this weekend. The Tuzos kept Sebastián Sosa busy in goal and they even came as close as hitting the crossbar through Franco Jara, but the breakthrough wouldn’t come.

Morelia withstood the pressure, and although they didn’t have as many chances, they made theirs count. In the 36th minute, Carlos Guzmán sent a cross into the box and Irven Ávila got behind the defense to head it home, giving La Monarquía the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Pachuca continued to press, but Morelia absorbed their attacks and then exploited the space left open in defense. There were chances at both ends, and Óscar Murillo very nearly scored an own-goal as his attempted clearance went awry.

Morelia came close to a second on several occasions, and Alexis Peña also came within inches of scoring an own-goal as Pachuca’s defense struggled to contain the hosts.

Then, in the 78th minute, Pachuca found the equalizer somewhat against the run of play. Emmanuel García sent a cross in from the left and Víctor Guzmán headed it past Sosa to make it 1-1.

Both teams looked for a winning goal and in the waning moments there were potential penalties committed at either end, but ultimately the two had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Morelia reaches 11 points while Pachuca reaches five.
