Pumas UNAM vs Querétaro – Jornada 6 Recap and Highlights

Querétaro earned their first road win of the season with a 0-1 victory against Pumas UNAM. The result keeps the Gallos Blancos unbeaten in two – and ends a three-game winless run – while the universitarios have now lost two in a row.

The hosts were without Alejandro Arribas and Luis Quintana, and their defense looked shaky as a result. Goalkeeper Alfredo Saldívar was kept busy, but he couldn’t keep the visitors from taking the lead in the 13th minute, when Camilo Sanvezzo and Marcel Ruiz combined well before Ruiz made it 0-1.

Querétaro kept the pressure up after taking the lead and in the 25th minute they won a penalty after a foul by Alan Mendoza in the box. Sanvezzo stepped up to take the PK, but his attempt was saved by Saldívar to keep Pumas in the game.

The universitarios couldn’t take advantage of that lifeline, however, as they struggled to create chances of their own. The rain that began in the second half didn’t help as field conditions deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Querétaro had numerous chances to put the game to bed, but a combination of poor marksmanship and good goalkeeping kept them from adding to their lead. In the end, however, one goal was all they needed.

With the 0-1 win, Querétaro reaches eight points while Pumas still have 10.
