Chivas de Guadalajara earned their first home win since October 2017 with a 1-0 victory against Nexaca. The result gives el Rebaño back-to-back wins, while the Rayos remain winless on the road and winless in three overall.
Chivas came out attacking as they looked to end their long home winless streak. Ángel Zaldívar had an early chance with a header, but he couldn’t keep his attempt on target. Zaldívar repeatedly caused problems for Necaxa’s defense, and in the 24th minute he won a penalty.
Zaldívar stepped up to take the spot kick himself, and he converted it to give Chivas the 1-0 lead.
The hosts kept Hugo González busy in goal as they looked to add to their lead, while the Rayos struggled to create chances of their own. Their best opportunity of the half was a shot from outside the box that went wide.
In the second half, Chivas continued to control the game. Javier López came close to adding a second with a left-footed shot, but González was able to make the one-handed save. They couldn’t get closer than that, however, and as a result Necaxa remained in the game until the end.
The visitors had a few chances on the counterattack and they kept pressing right up until the final whistle, even forcing a good save out of Miguel Jiménez in the 90th minute, but in the end they couldn’t find an equalizer.
With the 1-0 win, Chivas reaches points while Necaxa still has seven.
