After a 40-minute delay in the second half due to heavy rain and poor field conditions, Lobos BUAP earned a 0-1 away win against León. The result snaps a five-game losing streak and seven-game winless streak for the Licántropos, while La Fiera saw their own losing streak grow to three games.
The hosts started the game off better, but Lobos’ defense limited their chances. The first one of note came in the 22nd minute through Luis Montes, but his shot from outside the box ended up just off target.
In addition to Montes, Mauro Boselli was the main source of danger for the hosts. Boselli forced several saves out of Toño Rodríguez, including a slippery shot in the 60th minute.
As rain continued to fall, León looked to take advantage of the conditions by repeatedly testing the keeper’s ability to hold on to the wet ball, but Rodríguez was able to preserve the shutout.
By the 72nd minute, the field conditions caused by the downpour had grown poor enough for the game to be halted as groundskeepers worked to sweep the standing water away. After a long delay, the two teams came back out to play the final 18 minutes.
León continued to press after the restart, but they still couldn’t find the breakthrough. Then, with time winding down, Lobos snatched a late lead against the run of play.
In the 87th minute, León failed to deal with a cross to the near post, with goalkeeper and defender getting in each other’s way as the ball fell for Leonardo Ramos, who stabbed it home while on the ground to make it 0-1 for the universitarios.
With the 0-1 win, Lobos reach seven points while León still has 10.
