Santos Laguna vs Veracruz – Jornada 10 Recap and Highlights

Santos Laguna took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Veracruz came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Laguneros unbeaten in two and unbeaten at home this season, while the Tiburones Rojos ended a two-game winless streak but remain winless in three.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with chances at either end. Veracruz had an early opportunity through Cristian Menéndez, who looked to shot past an onrushing Jonathan Orozco but ended up sending his shot into the keeper.

Santos had most of the clear chances, but Pedro Gallese was active in goal to keep them off the board. Their best opportunity came just before halftime; in the 43rd minute, Jonathan Rodríguez showed off some individual skill before taking a shot that Gallese just managed to divert.

The breakthrough finally came shortly after the restart. In the 46th minute, Brian Lozano sent a cross to the far post and Rodríguez was there to send it home. 1-0.

The goal inspired Santos, who continued to press in search of a second, but Gallese once again became an impenetrable wall. As the game wore on, Veracruz began to get more possession and they created some good chances of their own as they looked for an equalizer.

In the 70th minute, they found it. Adrián Luna played in Jefferson Murillo, who sent the ball in for Menéndez, who scored with a neat little back-heeled flick to make it 1-1.

Santos tried to retake the lead, but Veracruz was able to hold on for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Santos reaches 18 points while Veracruz reaches eight.
